Among the general skepticism about the controversial app, see what has resurfaced in the last hours of the specialized forums and expert analysis.
The "patch boost" available for Android (we talked in depth here) aroused much interest and cusiorità, but also raised a lot of criticism in users who do not have benefited from experts or Android, where the patch is seen only as a very effective "sugar cube with fake medicine."
What is the truth? It is a colossal hoax?
The answers we have obtained from an interesting article on XDA (a sort of official denial) and some topics in the forum of reference.
Here is a summary of the responses found:
There seems to be no bugs in the JVM. The path offending (/ Dev / random) is now little used by Android, especially in later editions (from 4.0 up) on some devices will not work regardless, and often caused crashes and unexpected behavior (slowdowns, blocks or unexpected reboots) No real entropy "magic" can accelerate Android.
These little information would be sufficient to label everything as a "hoax" have done for an app useless for something miraculous, push only the placebo effect.
Something does not add up. "My device is really more reactive!, What happened?"
If you are among the many users (like myself) who, after applying the patch, has really found your device more responsive, fast and responsive ... there is a logical explanation and very precise.
If you exclude the placebo effect, which, however, has played an important role, many users in the forum of XDA note that the APA seem to be included (missing denied the developer) a hack to control the governor of the CPU.
Under standard conditions the governor of our smartphone limit the clock rate of the CPU depending on the load of the same: idle (IDLE) the frequency is low to save battery life, but then increased if necessary up to the maximum available frequency .
On some devices this governor does not act as it should, by raising the frequency with difficulty or with very long waiting times (sometimes does not go right, remaining fixed on the minimum value).
In these situations you can just generate a lag or slowdown, especially in the most heavy for the CPU (with minimum frequency values - usually 300MHz - you can not expect miracles of reactivity).
How does then the application?
Set to maximum (in my case 1000MHz) also the minimum frequency in order to have a snappy and fast CPU at any time, bypassing any problems with the governor in lifting or diminish frequencies.
This obviously affects the battery life of the phone (in my case I lost 2 hours of abundant automia).
Some also speak of "light oveclock" applied the patch to improve the results, but lack the precise and reliable sources to confirm it.
NOTE: On some smartphones the governor has not been hacked or does not show the changes made with diagnostic tools: any improvements can be, therefore, the "placebo effect."
To confirm these theories, I decided to do a quick test on my smartphone, uninstalling the patch to return to the default values.
After an intense use known the reappearance of the famous lag and stutter, even if light, jump immediately to an eye.
Within the advanced menu of Cyanogenmod and find the entry for the governor of my device
Septum manually the minimum frequency to the maximum available ...
... and imposed a parameter to autorun.
Reboot and .... known the same benefits obtained with the patch previously active: more fluidity, more responsive applications and the opening menu, a better sense of overall speed even after heavy use.
Conclusion
The buffalo is there, but is masked well, as are a lot of devices (any price range) to have problems more or less evident with the governor.
The app has only masked his true purpose and function behind the alleged bug in the JVM.
I suggest to uninstall the application and, if you still have the problem of lag, for manual operations in the parameters of the governor to find the right balance between power and energy savings, without any additional application "misleading".
A personal note:
This app helped me to finally understand the source of my lag: my governor does not work as it should, not upscala frequency in a quick and efficient!
I set an intermediate value for the minimum frequency and now I have all the benefits "promised" by the phantom patch without installing anything!
