Farewell interceptions: incoming calls, video calls, SMS and email-proof "spies"

Sophisticated programs promise a level of privacy never seen on smartphones and mobile phones. Governments and monitoring bodies raise their hands, talking of possible means "terrorist".

Farewell interceptions: incoming calls, video calls, SMS and email-proof

The theme for today is among the most controversial and discussed, since the arrival en masse of mobile phones, via Internet, PC and, ultimately, smartphone and tablet.

It is no secret that the U.S. Government agencies (or not), after the events of the past decade, have raised the oversight of a variety of devices, with (in compliance with applicable laws) control any data streams "suspicious" , be it email, call or SMS simple, all in the name of national security and the fight against organized crime and / or terrorism.

Among the more skeptical (and paranoid) was born the feeling of being "more guarded" in a more or less implicit, even if you do not commit crimes or do not bargains for terrorists.

And the ease of capture and record streams of data (email, voice, text and video) by the authorities increases this feeling of espionage "comprehensive and aggressive."

These arguments have for years been the battlefield of organizations in defense of fundamental human rights, according to which such behavior (legalized spying on a large scale) seriously undermines the privacy of every individual who uses (for personal use) PCs, phones and smartphone of any brand or manufacturer and, consequently, with any OS installed.

Leaving aside all aspects "cospirazionalistici" and "Orwellian" of the story, the question that arises is:

Regardless of my goals and objectives, there is a way to use at least the smartphone in complete anonymity, reducing to zero the risk of unauthorized interception? This security can be certified and guaranteed?

Until a few days ago, I would have said no: it is not possible to have the certification of a system completely free from eavesdropping outside.

But the music is going to change, and the news is one of those angering many government agencies and law enforcement agencies worldwide:

Silent Circle is a company founded precisely to ensure its clients (upon payment of a monthly subscription) a level of encryption and the encryption of their digital streams certified "anti-espionage."

In short, the offer is so high encryption systems and "anti-spy" so advanced as to not allow anyone, not even the company itself, to predict encryption keys, decryption codes and track the flow.

Email, voice calls, video calls and SMS: everything well hidden and "invisible", even in the eyes of those employees Silent Circle.

The mechanism put in place reminiscent of Skype, to which is added a security system worthy of the best action films: decentralized P2P communications through channels, keys and codes managed by a single application (and not by the server), guarded by each algorithm individual clients and servers that run from simple Circle "internodes" for the various peer network and, icing on the cake, an advanced system of "certification package flow".

To explain it in very simple words: if someone tries to intercept one of the encrypted packets of a call (even without decrypting the content), these packages will be as "altered" upon their arrival, and an "anti-Spy" divert packets later on a new path, changing the codes of each package.

So if the system senses for a second attempt at a "violation" of the call, react accordingly, without affecting too much the call quality (up to a second "stop", then the call starts to flow to the quality standard).

A "proof of the CIA," from what guarantee by the company itself.

The company provides a different app for every need of the user:

Silent Phone for secure calls, Silent Text to send anonymous text messages and ultra secret; Dumbledore Eyes video in HD with advanced encryption; Silent Mail to send anonymous email, encrypted and planned destruction;

The only real limit of the platform is able to ensure maximum privacy only if both parties are using these applications simultaneously.

The company, however, has released a service that allows you to call any number outside the network, obviously with a much lower level of privacy (due to receiving unprotected)

Applications are available for a trial period of 30 days for Android and iOS.

NOTE: Due to the negative opinions of some supervisory bodies, some apps have not yet been issued and will be subject to review by the authorities.

At the time of writing is available only Silent Phone.

What is the reaction of the U.S. government and the overseers world?

Tremendously negative, as was expected.

Applications seem to work so well (ergo: CIA and NSA can not break flows, ed) that the U.S. is ready to accuse the Silent Circle to violate certain laws of the Patriot Act, and carry out activities in support of terrorist organizations U.S. territory.

For his part, Mike Jake, CEO of Silent Circle, declares himself indifferent to pressure the U.S. government: at least attempt to violate or "force the hand" to bring down its service, will move all the servers in a country more respects the privacy of users (someone mentions New Zealand).

Meanwhile, some apps have not yet been released for some problems not specified, but it is only a matter of time before you have all the services.

A new Spy-war is about to begin between the U.S. and guardians of privacy?
