Let's see how to turn on the smoothing of the contours advanced "ClearType", present in the startup window of Windows Vista, even in the screen corresponding to the "old" XP.
Windows Vista, despite the many criticisms and doubts (which I share) on its real quality, has many interesting little feature that is often possible to carry on without too much trouble even before XP.
We analyze how to make the operating system you use ClearType technology also in the startup screen (so to speak, where you select the one you use to access), which is disabled by default.
What would happen if
Here is the splash screen with the XP system smoothing "Standard" on by default:
And now with the "ClearType" we're going to activate:
Work "historical"
At the end of 2000, Microsoft realized that the fonts used by his two-time operating systems (Windows 2000 and Me) were not qualitatively adequate to equip the new and visually appealing Whistler, then under development. So Microsoft took advantage of the work done for the Microsoft Reader, improved and condensed in ClearType, which was implemented natively in Windows XP, the product that came from the development of Whistler.
When Microsoft released XP (late 2001), however, many computers, activating ClearType, suffered sharp declines in performance, so the Redmond decided to turn this technology and let the user choose to activate it by adding an entry (carefully hidden away, as usual Microsoft) in the appearance settings window, accessible via a right click an empty area of the desktop -> Properties -> Appearance -> Effects and as a method of selecting smoothing "ClearType" instead of "Standard".
When Microsoft created Windows Vista (late 2006) believed that computers of the period could easily support the activation of ClearType display without performance degradation. So the technology was enabled by default, with the possibility of adjusting the operation using the usual window.
But in Windows XP, the situation remained to the end of 2001: The operating system supports the technology but does not use it except on the specific setting of the user. In addition, although you can enable ClearType for the individual user, there is an option to activate it for the initial window.
So let's see how to eliminate this lack of Windows XP.
A small change to the registry and the problem is solved
Because this procedure is to modify the registry, I suggest you make a backup of the section affected by the change, so you can restore the previous situation in case of problems.
Any changes you make to the system during this procedure must be run with administrator privileges.
Open the registry editor by combining: Start -> Run , type regedit.exe and press Enter.
Array
When you restart the writing in the login screen should be smoothed with the ClearType technology, which provides a significantly better visual comfort.
Furthermore, this change also has the welcome effect of activating ClearType smoothing for each new user added to the computer.
For more information about ClearType and how to adjust the operation I refer you to an article published some time ago MegaLab.it.
