In recent days have spread a network of modified copies of Windows 7 Release Candidate-containing trojan capable of making the PC part of a botnet.
Users who these days have downloaded Windows 7 from unofficial sources may find an unwelcome surprise: since April 24, in fact, have appeared in the P2P channels and related ISO images of operating system and specially modified to be infected with a dangerous malware.
The virus is detected by Trend Micro as Spx-droppers, and is able to make the operating system part of a botnet, that is, a network of computers controlled by a cracker that could use them as a bridgehead to launch attacks into third or a complete turn them into spam-fired power plants.
The operating system, the Trojans, is fully functional, so the detection of infection may be quite difficult.
Recent estimates believe that the Windows "bogus" was actually installed more than 25,000 times.
Many of the servers responsible for infection have now been closed, but most of the infected computer is still under the control of hackers.
It is strongly recommended not to take this image to download a different channel from the Microsoft site, the realease candidate it is still available, completely free of charge: more information is available from this page.
