Sun is now owned by Oracle

The giant Oracle has pulled off an acquisition certainly the first floor: the company has purchased Sun Microsystems, and with it control of some leading technologies.

The transaction, valued in the order of 7.4 billion dollars (pocopiù 5 billion and a half million), will bring with him some news surely significant in the IT industry.

The spotlight will be on MySQL: how ricoderà, because the software was acquired in turn by Sun in January of last year, and now becomes (after at least one failed attempt) owned by Oracle in all respects. One wonders: what will become of the famous open source database engine all'acqusizione followed by enriched thanks to a company marketing a similar product?

It is highly likely that Oracle MySQL does not suppress but, rather, chooses to continue development. The two products, although undoubtedly present some areas of overlap, tend to affect different segments of the market: if MySQL is strong in SMEs and is undoubtedly the main tool in the web, Oracle tends to be preferred in high-end the professional segment, stopping the development of MySQL, Oracle, and then lose a significant portion of customers, pushing it straight to PostgreSQL, an open source RDBMS fully considered by many as the de facto alternative to MySQL.
