The focus in recent months has been mainly focused on events that took into account the illegal file-sharing. After the regulations imposed in many states, the trial of The Pirate Bay and the numerous clashes between IFPI and pirates, came now the results of a more in-depth studies on piracy in the world.

The analysis, conducted on data dating back to last year by IDC for the Business Software Alliance (BSA), has shown conflicting results and completely different from those of past surveys. 110 countries were analyzed: 57 of them appear to have reduced its piracy rate to 38 other hand there were no significant changes.

Yet, at the end of the analysis, it was found that the global loss of money has increased considerably. This is due to the Euro-Asian pasi, such as India, China, Japan and Russia, where piracy has been a considerable increase in percentage. Worldwide losses, estimated in dollars, reached a peak of 53 billion only in software, where analysts have considered each piece as a purchase pirated lost.

Just look at some numbers to realize that in almost half of all PC software installed is pirated: about 15% is free or open source software is legitimate and 44%, 41% of the remaining was acquired but not paid the amount due to legitimate rights holders.

As far as the world rankings on the total file obtained illegally, Italy is in second place, after Spain and France followed. Our country has passed the fourth in the standings last year with 19.2 million of files downloaded illegally. The United States, who have dominated the charts in 2008, slipped to the fourth step, with "only" 8.1 million illegal.

Much of it is literally different from the previous ranking: Brazil rose from ninth place to sixth, seventh to tenth from Canada and Israel, which did not fall into the top ten, is now the ninth step. Spain, with its 24.7 million for violations has excelled in the new poll, was second in 2007.

This upheaval is likely occurring due to some very strict regulations that have affected several states across the globe. In Italy, where the problem has always been only partially addressed, the numbers are likely to be destined to rise even more.
