The technology Parallel ATA (PATA), better known as EIDE, has disappeared from the next-generation PC. Probably only those who are using largely outdated workstations or dealing with technical support have yet to do with this ancient interface.

But back in 2002, when Windows XP was launched on the market, PATA was the de facto standard in the world of home. Only in 2003, Serial ATA (SATA) were completed, giving way to a process of technological change that led, within a few years, to send (finally) in the attic PATA, the wide gray strip, the complications of configuring Master / slave transfer speeds far from exciting, and so on.

Despite numerous service pack, however, Microsoft has never provided with Windows XP, the functionality required to install the OS on the new generation of discs, but this feature of Windows Vista and later.
