Microsoft launches Windows Server to a minimum

Although Linux solutions always represent a particularly attractive in the server, the economic downturn is making it even more interesting to the adoption of an open source operating system, especially in smaller firms.

To try to ward off the threat free, Microsoft announced the availability of a new edition of Windows Server directed to SMEs, particularly those companies with fewer than 15 users.

The product is called Windows Server 2008 Foundation, and is, in fact, a minimized version of Windows Server 2008.

As evident, the focus is all on the price: the new operating system is proposed as a viable (and inexpensive) solution for delivering business applications, manage databases, Web sites and act as file and print server.

Contrary to the oversized editions of Windows Server, Foundation will manage a single processor and up to 8 GB of RAM: specific, however, seem appropriate to the intended target.
